Spring Season is also the Start of Grill Season

Happy Monday everyone! Thanks goodness, the weather is slowly getting friendlier! During Easter week  especially during  Easter  weekend, it was still snowing. I am glad  starting this week, the weather really gets better. I can already go outside without wearing a thick winter jacket and snow boots.  Yesterday, I was even wearing a t'shirt outside  while planting some flowers at  the backyard.

Barbequing at the backyard is indeed fun.  Spring season is the perfect time to start it!
Indeed, spring Season is  here and it is also the  start of Grill season! It was a good decision buying some meats and vegetables for grilling when I went grocery shopping last Thursday. I bought some German sausages called bratwurst and some chicken and pork meat that were already marinated. I was really hoping for  a better weather last weekend and so thankful that it  really was  a nice  one.

The backyard is a perfect place for doing a barbeque or some grilling. It is not so small and not so big. Some spring flowers especially the tulips and hyacinths are flowering right now. Others are still growing. Thanks to my BFF who was a great grill master.  I did had yummy and sumptuous grilled foods yesterday.

For now, just enjoy  the yummy photo I got here. You can also fine some spring flowers in my garden at the image. Have  a lovely week to all! I am slowly hitting my sack! Goodnight.....until then...

Pests in Our Home and Garden

This is not really a funny topic about pests in our home and garden. Are you having the same problem like ours? This is especially true especially if these pests are inside our homes. More on that, there are people who are afraid of pests such as flies, rats, ants, bees, snails, slugs, centipedes and the like.

This afternoon,  when I was working in our garden, I was so mad because there are a lot of slugs eating the leaves and flowers of my plants. I believed you are very familiar about this kind of pest which is a shell-less terrestrial gastropod mollusk. I already saw different kinds and colors of slugs in our garden.

Five Places To Do Gardening for a Living

If you have a green thumb, gardening can be a good profession anywhere in the world. Gardeners work at places where lawns, gardens, and trees need professional care. Depending on the country and season, gardeners and groundskeepers are responsible for garden furniture care, preserving the condition of the soil, and planting, watering, and pruning flowers, shrubs and trees. Often, gardeners are called upon for their creative flair, whether it’s adding garden accessories, decorative garden lighting fixtures, or simply designing a new layout which increases its visual appeal.

Many community residents are frustrated in trying to keep their lawns in good condition due to health issues or difficulties relating to age. After obtaining a relevant work visa (if applicable) start with offering your services to senior citizens in and people who are getting ready to go on vacation. Also, check with local lawn services. Once you have built a good reputation and a small clientele, offer your services to businesses and institutions that have gardens around their buildings, such as:

Resorts and Hotels

In any country you go to, there are always resorts and hotels. These establishments usually have massive grounds which employ gardeners and landscapers to maintain the appearance, health, and condition of grass, flowers and trees.

Apartment Complexes

Villas and apartments hire gardeners and groundskeepers to provide care for grass, trees, shrubs, plants, and flowers.

Housing Developments

Depending on the economic growth of the country you live in, housing developments that exist often employ gardeners to and maintenance of grass, trees, shrubs, plants, and flowers.

Schools and Colleges

Again, there Schools and colleges use gardeners to cut, fertilize and water their lawns.

Churches, Temples, Mosques, Monuments and Cemeteries

These places hire gardeners to take care of lawns and gardens. Often they can involve landscaping and manicuring gardens and flower displays and arrangements.

If you enjoy the outdoors, you can easily turn a gardening hobby into a profession. It is easy to start a gardening business, whether you want to work full-time or just a few hours a week.

Interesting Garden and Plant Shows in Europe

Some of these garden and plants shows were already over. Some are still going on and some are about to come. To all nature lovers out there who are traveling in Europe in 2011, you still have the chance to visit some of these garden and plant shows all year long throughout Europe. Thanks to the garden experts for compiling the list below.

1) Floralies Internationales, Geneva, Switzerland

There are still garden and plant shows to visit in Europe as winter approaches. The Floralies Internationales from November 14 to November 23 is held inside the Palexpo Exhibition Centre. The temperatures outside will be between 30 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit but the floral arrangements by exhibitors from all over the world will make it seem like spring inside the Exhibition Centre.

2) Wicklow Gardens Festival, County Wicklow, Ireland

Travelers who want to see gardens in Ireland have a great opportunity to do so during the Wicklow Gardens Festival from April to September. The gardens that can be visited during the festival are not usually open to the public. Ireland’s Heritage Properties are also on display during the festival. Houses and gardens all over County Wicklow can be visited during the festival. Visitors can see Mount Usher Gardens in Ashford and then travel north to see the Powerscourt House and Gardens in Enniskerry. Travelers who go west from Enniskerry will come to Russborough House and its gardens.

3) International Violet Meeting, Toulouse, France

Toulouse is known as the world capital of violets. The “pink city” hosted the International Violet Meeting last February 5 and February 6. Botanists, scientists and violet growers from all over the world came to the city to share their knowledge. People who have no professional connection to the world of violets got a lot from this show. There were exhibitions and other attractions centered around flowers. Admission to the show was free.

4) Holland Flowers Festival, Zwaagdijk-Oost, The Netherlands

Flower lovers had seen many more types of flowers durinr their travel to the Netherlands for the Holland Flower Festival last February 23 to February 27. The show’s venue was filled with hundreds of kinds of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, narcissus, irises and crocuses. Early bird tickets and group discounts were available for this show

5) Malvern Autumn Garden & Country Show, Malvern, Worcestershire, England

This show in September marks the end of the gardening year and the approach of autumn. Representatives from more than 100 nurseries will have displays here. You can also find garden decors and accessories during the show.

Nature lovers will likely find a plant or garden show to visit in most European countries no matter what time of year they travel to Europe.

Garden Accessories

It is finally garden time! It is also time to shop for garden accessories. I guess not for me because I already have a lot of stuffs to decorate in our garden. I am ready to put my garden statues, built the pavilion, flower pots, wind chimes and some animal figures but I just can't do it. The problem is, our garden is in chaos at the moment. We are on the process of making a terrace beside our house and most parts of my garden were transferred. It means that most of my plants were also replanted. It cost a lot of hard work for me and especially for hubby but I am quite sure when it is finish, we can have a little paradise in our garden.

these were some of the flowers in our garden. taken from summer 2010.

I just hope that we can finish everything before the high season of summer comes. I spent almost two hours this afternoon working in our garden. I always love it!

May is Finally Here

Happy Monday everyone! Here we are again on the first week of another month. The fifth month of the year is finally here. This month has a length of 31 days. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere part of the globe, you are currently having an Autumn season. I currently live in Europe which is located in Northern Hemisphere, therefore, we are currently having a spring season. This is one of my favorite time in the year, where most flowers start to bloom.

I still have some tulips blooming in our garden but most of it are dying now. Don't you know that the month of May has been named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman era goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May? If you were born in the month of May, your birthstone is the emerald which means love or success. Its birth flower is the Crataegus monogyna and the Lily of the Valley. It is quite interesting to know some things about this month.

Here some of tulips from our garden taken last month. Now, they are almost gone. I will see them again next year.

Tulips from Our Garden and The Castle Tower

What a busy day we had today. I helped hubby again installed three windows today. It is quite dusty because we have to dismantle the old windows to put the new ones. Week by week we are doing it until it is finish. I asked hubby how old those windows are. He said that it is already in the house since he bought the house sometime in the '80s. I was kidding him that maybe it is already a century old. Anyway, I am sharing somes tulips from our little Keukenhof garden and the castle tower that is located just adjacent to our garden. An honor to live near the castle ruins.
