The Castle Tower in Hohenfels and the Lovely Begonias

Weekend is almost over again! I hope you had a great one. Yes, I do and I am very thankful about it. I just watched the football game played between Germany and Australia. German won with a score of 4-0. That was truly a great winning especially for the German Football Team and the fans. I also had a great Sunday today after having a little sightseeing at the nearby town. There was an Altstadtsfest or Old City festival in Neumarkt, Germany and today is the last day. We also visited the rose garden in this district and it was very beautiful.

Here are my images for my memes. The first one is the tower of the castle ruins in Hohenfels. I went to the top of this hill last Wednesday and made some pictures of the surroundings. The second one are some begonia flowers. I wish you all a great week ahead. take care folks!

Spring is Finally Here

Another weekend is here! My sister that today is beginning of spring time in Dallas, Texas. I also heard this afternoon over a radio station here in Germany that today is the beginning of spring time. That is the reason why we headed to Burglengenfeld to buy some flowers and other stuffs for the house. I already started planting flowers this afternoon in our garden.

I am also sharing a picture of the Burglengenfeld Castle as we passed by this afternoon. You can only see the tower from this castle. What a gray sky we had but I am thankful that it is warmer now with a temperature of 16 degrees centigrade. I am so happy! Happy weekend to you too!

WW#52 The Water Well

I find this well very interesting. This was taken again in Kallmuenz, a small town near our place. You can also see in the background the Vils River that flows around this town. We sometimes go to this place for sightseeing or go walking around. We even sit down to the banks near the river and watch some small fishes or ducks swimming in it. Happy Wordless Wednesday!

Good Start of the Month

Hello everyone! The first day of the month of March is almost over. how did you spend your day? I just stayed at home and did some household chores and talked to my family back home. I also had a nice conversation with a friend. I would say it is a good start of the month. I also talked to my husband about the planned trip to Paris by month-end. I am still waiting for the approval of my husband's vacation leave so that the trip to Paris, France will push through. I also can't wait to see my friend in Ramstein, a place near Kaiserslautern. From Kaiserslautern will be the starting place to hop in a bus to Paris..I am quite excited to see the "Romantic city" for the first time!

Hohenfels is a small town in Oberpfalz and is a big valley which simply means that it is surrounded by hills and mountains.. It is a very beautiful place especially during summer time when the surroundings are all green. I always love to take photos of this place especially during the different seasons of the year. I considered Hohenfels my second home being a German citizen now.

Trip To Prague, Czech Republic

photo by: Euroangel

The entrance to the Franz Kafka museum in Prague.

I am just sharing these photos during our trip to Prague last Sept. 27, 2008. That was quite a tiring trip that requires a lot of walking and hurrying but I was really contented seeing this interesting and historical city.."Prague is worthwhile seeing"

source of below information....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Kafka

Franz Kafka has a museum dedicated to his work in Prague, Czech Republic. The term "Kafkaesque" is widely used to describe concepts, situations, and ideas which are reminiscent of Kafka's works, particularly The Trial and "The Metamorphosis".

In Mexico, the phrase "Si Franz Kafka fuera mexicano, sería costumbrista" (If Franz Kafka were Mexican, he would be a Costumbrista writer) is commonly used in newspapers, blogs, and online forums to tell how hopeless and absurd the situation in the country is.

It has been noted that "from the Czech point of view, Kafka was German, and from the German point of view he was, above all, Jewish" and that this was a common "fate of much of Western Jewry."

The famous St. Vitus Cathedral near the Castle of Prague...look I'm waving my hand!!thanks to my husband who had the patient in clicking the camera..have a great evening to all!!..I am slowly signing off!!...feel free to visit my other blogs for more updates!! Thanks in advance!!

Beautiful Sunday!!

It was a very nice sunny day today!! We visited the twin sister of my husband in the hospital in Neumarkt. She had again an operation on her leg..I guess it is her fourth operation only for this year. What a pity!! We can be very thankful if we don't have one!! We got some conversations with the couple..My sister-in-law and her husband were happy as they see us there. .We stayed in the hospital for almost two hours..

After our visit, I told my husband to go walking to the small city in Neumarkt..I love this city, as you almost get here what you need basically especially for shopping ( i love this word..guess all women love this)..hehehe.. The weather today was very friendly. A lot of people were sitting outside the cafes/restaurants having some coffees or ice cream...guess, Germans get crazy when the weather is very nice...they really go out to the sun..well esp. women who want to have brown or tan skin..

We just went walking around the city and hurried up to Parsberg...for more updates, please also visit
here are some photos I got today!! have fun!!

What A Crazy Weather!!

Did I mentioned yesterday about the storm in Germany for the past days..right?? and I also said that I will wait what's going on for the rest of the day?? well, yesterday we had again a crazy weather. In the morning sunshine was there. As I went shopping in Burglengenfeld in the afternoon, I was caught by snow. Then comes the rain later. What a crazy weather. We even have 3 seasons in a day sometimes; sunny, rainy and snow time..

Just an honest advice to everybody who want to come to Germany especially in the state of Bavaria, just don't trust the weather. Always bring with you umbrellas and rain coats and even sweaters when the weather sometimes becomes cold esp. in the night.

And what I got now from yesterday's crazy weather??? got some colds and a bit headache. The weather forecast also said that some parts of Germany will be snowing this week. Even the weather last night went down to -7 degree centigrade..really freezing cold!!

Today comes the sunshine again..hope the weather will be the same the rest of the day so I can go a bit walking if I am feeling better..

have a nice day to all of you!!! thanks for always visiting me here!!!

clearer view of the castle in Burglengenfeld..

view from afar..Burglengenfeld castle..very dark sky..It was already raining
as I took this photo.

where I parked my car during grocery shopping..at this time it was already snowing..sorry just don't have a good camera to catch the dropping of snow.

A Reader's Request

I got a request in my tag-board from a reader name Art last Feb. 07, 2008...saying this;
"Ruby, I have enjoyed your blog very much. I was in Hohenfels almost 40years ago. Could you PLEASE post a picture of The Schwarzen Katz restraunt on your blog? Thank You VERY MUCH"

Hello Art, I finally got some photos for you from the Black Cat Restaurant or Schwarze Katz here in Hohenfels...

anyway, this small beer house in Hohenfels is the favorite hang-out of American soldiers....it's just some hundred meters walk from our house but never been there..I also really don't want to go insides because guests or people there smoke too much...But since Jan. 2008, it is already prohibited by law to smoke inside the restaurants...so probably next time will try to go inside the Schwarze Katz..

.here it is...sorry done it a bit late...but anyway "Better late than Never"

my beloved Hohenfels..the farthest buildings are already the housing
of the US soldiers and their family..

the real Schwarze Kat..saw today while I went walking..perfect timing!!!

here it is Art, your request is now finally granted!!!
hope you're happy now!!!

Fasching in Breitenbrunn, Germany

We finally witnessed today a Fasching or Carnival in Breitenbrunn, a small town in Neumarkt. My husband read about it in the weekend newspaper. We decided to go there at the last minute. I guess sometimes it is better for us to make a quick decision to go somewhere that planning it ahead. We already woke-up late today. After we ate our brunch, we hurried-up driving to Breitenbrunn since we still don't know if the park place is near or far.

Last year, we witnessed the Fasching in Dietfurth. It is always a Chinese Fasching/Carnival there. It was held this year last Thursday, Jan. 31. I read in the Newspaper that around 10,000 people from different places were there just to witness this fascinating Carnival. They usually have more than 50 groups of participants compared in Breitenbrunn who only have around 20 groups.
We enjoyed seeing the different customes and street dancing during the parade. That was really nice. As usual, I am sharing with you again the photos I took during the parade..You can also see more photos here and here.

Carnival is a festival season. It occurs immediately before Lent; the main events are usually during February or March. It typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations.

Carnival is mostly associated with Roman Catholic and, to a lesser extent, Eastern Orthodox Christians; Protestant areas usually do not have carnival celebrations or have modified traditions, like the Danish Carnival. The world's largest carnival celebration is held in Brazil but many countries worldwide have large, popular celebrations, such as Carnival of Venice.

Length and individual holidays:

Depending on the area, the carnival may last from a few weeks to several months. While its starting day varies, it usually ends on the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent. In the Ambrosian rite of Milan (Italy), the carnival ends on the Saturday after Ash Wednesday, and in the area of Eastern Christianity, it ends on the Sunday seven weeks before Easter, since in Eastern tradition lent begins on Clean Monday.

Most commonly the season begins on Septuagesima, the third Sunday before Ash Wednesday, but in some places it starts as early as Twelfth Night or even in November. The most important celebrations are generally concentrated during the last days of the season.

The following holidays, which are all part of the seven days before Ash Wednesday, often have special customs:

  • Quinquagesima, the Sunday, when often a break from the festivities occurs;
  • Shrove Monday or Lundi Gras or Rosenmontag, in many areas the high point of the festivities;
  • Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) or Fastnacht, the high point of the festivities when, according to many traditions, preparations for the parties are made, such as baking goods.

Some sights to see are the castle ruins in Hohenfels and the beautiful St. Ullrich Church. Hohenfels is a small but beautiful town where you can experience lovely nature around. Here are some images from Hohenfels.
