Visit to Mainau Island in Baden-Württemberg

I know for sure there are millions of flowers blooming again in Insel Mainau, the German name for Mainau Island. Spring flowers like tulips, narcissus and daffodils can still be found at this time of the year. Oceans of cheerful, sweet- scented, colourful spring flowers entice its outdoors again. From the end of March, more than a million tulips, narcissi and hyacinths line the Spring Avenue and fill the flowerbeds on Mainau Island.

The palace gardens at Mainau were mainly created by Lennart Bernadotte. This was taken during our visit last July  2012.
varieties of flowers can be seen in Insel Mainau especially during spring and summer season.
I always love visiting parks and garden like Mainau Island. Last summer 2012, I had the chance to go there with a bus trip. It costs 35.00 Euros per person starting in Regensburg, Germany but the boat and entrance to the island is not included in that trip. As far as I can remember, we paid almost 30.00 Euros for the entrance and boat ride going to the island.

That was a wonderful and relaxing walk we had around the island  seeing the beauty of nature.

It's Getting Cold Again!

Winter is  back!  Did someone ordered a lot of snow again? I never order one  because I don't need snow anymore.  Just kidding  folks. We  are having a winter wonderland again!   This is Europe and winter season  is normal here. There are countries in Europe that are having subtropical weathers and I believed they really don't have a bad winter like in Germany.

Winter in Lupburg, Germany, where my friend lives.

To keep yourself warm, be sure to wear warm winter clothes and accessories especially when you go out of the house. I don#t complain of the cold outside because I already have enough winter clothing.

Beautiful But Dangerous

If you are my friend in facebook, you might probably know all the messages I posted in my FB wall. I am not talking about a person who is beautiful but dangerous here. I am careful when talking about that. Lessons were learned from the pass until now. Sometimes you cannot trust a person and it is better to keep things by myself unless otherwise when my duty obliged me to do so.

I am actually talking about snow here. Yesterday, when I went shopping in the nearby town, the weather was quite good when I left home. The snow was still not so hard. On my way home, the snow gets harder and the streets were already filled with snow. I really tried my best to drive carefully but sometimes when you are up and down on a hill filled with snow, you can't avoid to slip.

the road  I passed yesterday. It was all filled with  snow. Winter time is beautiful but sometimes it is just too dangerous.
Winter tired really don't help all the time especially when the road is icy ans slippery. I am thankful that I arrived home safely. I heard over the news this morning that there were around a thousand of accidents that happened during the snow fall yesterday. That is quite sad.

To everyone out there, I am just reminding you to be extra careful when driving during snow time. There is no better driver when it comes to it. Take care and be safe!

It's Snowing in Bavaria

Perfect timing! My car  has its  winter tires on now! This is one a must-to-do before snow comes. This morning when I woke-up and looked at the window, the surroundings are already white.  Snow is already here! It was a combination of snow and rain and really good for driving.

I should go for grocery shopping today but cancelled it  due to the bad weather. I  might go tomorrow. If it is not really very important, I always avoid driving and going elsewhere. Continuous snowing is not really good. Good things is, the roads and highways in Germany are being cleaned from time to time by government workers who are assigned in road repair and maintenance.

I guess this is the time to hibernate...Oh well, I still have a lot of things to do offline. I hope I can finish most of it tomorrow.  Besides, I need to put my Christmas decors on.

Autumn Snapshots

The weathers is always grey and cold, are only some of the characteristics of autumn season. I am happy when I see sunshine during autumn time. What I love in this season is the colorful surrounding we have.

Here are some autumn snapshots I took last week. I love the beauty of  nature during autumn season.

Earliest Snow in Bavaria, Germany

This is history and I cannot forget October 27, 2012. This is the earliest snow  fall  that I experienced in Bavaria, Germany.  Does this mean that  winter is really here? Or it is going away again? Unbelievable but it happens! I did not expect that it is snowing today but it really is. I guess,  at the moment I am writing this post, it is still snowing outside.

I should be going out to go bonding with friends tonight but I was not able to go. First reason, my car has still summer tires. The people in the house are all busy and hubby don't have the time to change my tires to winter ones. We also plan to polish the car before winter comes but due to busyness, it was not done at all. We are also planning to change our car seats. At the moment we are looking for a company nearby who is doing leather car seat repair but since we are really very busy with home renovation  the past weeks, it is still not taking care of. I guess we will wait again until spring next year.

snow in Bavaria, Germany last Feb. 2012.
Lastly, I want to warn all my friends nearby, please be careful when driving during snow time especially those who are first timers to drive during this season. I know you can do it but please  be extra careful.  In short, drive safely!

Happy weekend to all!

I Love Insel Mainau in Germany

I finally visited Insel Mainau (Mainau Island). This island is famous for its gardens with  lovely flowers of all kinds. It is known as the Blumeninsel of Flower Island. It is an island in Bodensee or Lake Constance. Since I am a number one fan of flowers, I truly fall in love with this place. It made me crazy for a bit seeing all those beauty of nature in the whole island thru the different flowers and trees. Simply amazing!

I told hubby that  it is fine for me to live in this place. I find it a paradise. The long bus ride that we had that time was fully paid-off.  The weather was also perfect. I was quite hot  during our visit  that you need to drink a lot of water when you walk around the island to avoid dehydration.

I love all the flowers  on this island. Insel Mainau is a paradise for me. I love it there.

Passau, A European City

Passau, Passau! I am trying to remember how many times did I already visited this city. I got it now! I was there for the fourth time last summer 2010. I also had the chance to always pass this city for a lot of times. Passau is truly a European city and I always  love visiting  it.

It is famous for the name,  "The Three River City" or known as  "Dreiflüssestadt" because the Danube is joined at Passau by the Inn from the south and the Ilz from the north. What I love most in this city is its  Cathedral known as  the St. Stephen's Dom. I love its architecture especially its interior.

Just sharing these snapshots I took   during my last visit in August 2010.

I wish everyone a great month of August 2012! Cheers!

The Fernsehturm in Berlin

Have you been to Germany's capital city? Have you seen its Fernsehturm? Yes, I did! It was during my trip to Berlin last year when I saw this very tall architecture. Fernsehturm is a German word which means Television tower in English. It is 368 meters high and said to be the tallest building in Germany.

As of now, there are still a lot of constructions in Germany's capital. The  latest one is  the new airport which is called the Berlin Brandenburg Airport. It looks like a huge steel span building when I saw some pictures of it during the start of the construction. I should be opened last June 3, 2012. Due to technical difficulties—primarily dealing with fire safety and smoke exhaust systems—the opening has been delayed till 17 March 2013.

Berlin has a lot of interesting structures and architecture and one of it is the   Fernsehturm located near Alexanderplatz. Here is a snapshot I took during my visit last February 2011.

This Cool Classic Oldtimer Car in Neumarkt

I wish to drive this cool classic Oldtimer car but sorry, it is only good for your eyes! It was a very interesting event seeing a lot of classic cars during the Oldtimertreffen in Neumarkt in Upper Palatinate part of Bavaria, Germany. That was already the third time that I witnessed such event.

Here  is one of the cars that I love during that gathering of Oldtimers.

Oldtimertreffen in Neumarkt, Bavaria

After taking our brunch this morning, me and hubby can't wait to go to the Oldtimertreffen in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz in Bavaria. This was already the third time that we witness this event. It started around 10:00 am. We arrived there almost noon time. You can see various oldtimer cars with different styles, colors, names and forms.

It was really very interesting seeing how technology evolved. I heard over the news that over 25,000 people went to the said event today. I am not quite sure how many oldtimer cars were there but I believed it is over a hundred. The sunny weather with cool breeze made it perfect today.

Here are some images of the oldtimer cars at the Oldtimertreffen in Neumarkt today.

Happy 20th Birthday Munich Airport

It is actually a belated happy birthday for Munich Airport. Last May 17, 2012 was the 20th birthday of this airport.  I  happened to be there the next day  because I accompanied a friend who picked-up some visitors  coming from the United States.

The airport was so busy that day because tourists from around the world are coming not only for visit but also to witness the final games of the Europe Football League held at  Allianz  Stadium on May 12, 2012. Chelsea London won against FC Bayern Munich.  The football team from London won various trophies and awards after  a lot of winnings including  the European Football League.

May 17, 2012 marked the 20th  building anniversary of Munich airport.

Munich International Airport is located around 28 km away from Munich City. It is the hub for Lufthansa and Star Alliance partner airlines. The airport is named after Franz Josef Strauß, who played a prominent, albeit sometimes controversial role in politics of the Federal Republic of Germany from the 1950s until his death in 1988.

This airport is where I always fly when travelling in Europe and other continents of the world.

Postcard from Hofbräuhaus Munich

Have you been to Munich? If you are planning to visit Bavaria's capital city in the future, I would suggest you to visit Hofbräuhaus. It is a brewery in Munich, Germany owned by the Bavarian state government. Better go inside and if possible try Bavarian cuisine and of course its own brewed beer.

I have been to this famous brewery and restaurant twice and if I still have the chance in the future, I would surely go back again. Most of the times, it is full of guests and visitors inside. You can be very lucky if you will get a table immediately. During Oktoberfest, expect it to be fully crowded.

I will share some images I took from inside of Hofbräuhaus. I still have to find it in my files.

A postcard I bought during my second visit in Hofbräuhaus in Munich.

Short Stop at Garmish-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany

My first visit to this town was in August 2004. I cannot forget that day because it was my birthday when we had a 4-days trip in this area. My second visit was last year in September where we had a short stop-over there. I love Garmisch-Partenkirchen because of its setting. The nature in this town including the mountains, hills and valleys, rivers, lakes nearby and the forest and woodlands are just so magnificent.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a famous mountain resort town in Bavaria in the southern part of Germany. The highest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitze (2961 m or 9714 ft.) is located nearby. This town was also the site of the Winter Olympic Games in 1936. It is also a famous holiday spot for skiing, snowboarding, and hiking, having some of the best skiing areas in Germany like Garmisch Classic and Zugspitze.

Interesting Places to Visit in Bavaria

Bavaria is the largest and also the most beautiful state of Germany. It is also the most visited and the most popular tourist destination in this country.

If you are visiting Bavaria, here are some of the interesting places I recommend you to visit.

Munich- Your visit to Bavaria is not complete at all without visiting its beautiful capital city. Munich is the third largest city of Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg. There are a lot to see and to experience in this charming city including its fine culture, beautiful architecture and interesting museums. If you have the chance make a perfect timing to visit the world's most famous and biggest festival, the annual Oktoberfest beer celebration.

Don't miss to visit its famous sights such as the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), the Marienplatz (Mary's Square), Nymphenburg Palace, BMW Headquarters, Maximilianeum, the Residenz, Olympiapark and many more. If you have the chance, make some sidetrips to Linderhof Palace and the famous Neuschwanstein Castle of King Ludwig II of Bavaria in Hohenschwangau.

Bamberg- This is also an interesting city to visit in Bavaria. It is located in Upper Franconia on the river Regnitz close to its confluence with the river Main. Its historic city center is included in the list of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

The historic Old Town Hall in Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany. Taken during my third visit last January 2012

Walking around the city is the best thing for you to do when seeing its sights. The Cathedral, Neue Residenz, Klein-Venedig or Little Venice, Alte Hofhaltung, Old Town Hall and the Michaelsberg Abbey are onyl some of the sights not to miss when visiting Bamberg. For those who love beer, try the Rauchbier or the Smoked beer which is unique to Bamberg.

Würzburg- It is a beautiful, historic, and lively city that is often overlooked by foreign visitors. This city is famous for its Residence which is listed in the UNESCO cultural world heritage site. It is regarded as one of the finest palaces in Europe with its Baroque architecture. It is also called as the "University City" and the "City of Many Churches". Würzburg is also home to one of the oldest churches in Germany, built in the 8th century on top of a former pagan shrine. Other famous sights include the Old Main Bridge, the Fortress Marienberg, Marienkapelle (Mary's Chapel), the Julius Spital and the Haus zum Falken.

A statue on the Old Main Bridge in Würzburg. You can see the Fortress Marienberg at the background.

Regensburg- Its old city has been listed in the UNESCO World Heritage site since 2006. It is considered to be one of the oldest towns of Germany. Its main sights include the Dom or the Cathedral, the Roman remains Porta Praetoria, the Stone Bridge, The Church of St. James, Abbey church of St. Emmeram, the Town Hall, the Goldener Turm (golden tower) and the botanical garden located on the University of Regensburg campus. You can also make a sidetrip to the Walhalla, the Parthenon of Bavaria located in Donaustauf some kilometers away from Regensburg.

If you are planning to make a holiday in Germany, be sure to plan your trip ahead to save time and money. You can browse the internet for cheap hotels and discount Flights to Germany. There are three international airports in Bavaria; Munich International Airport, Nuremberg and Memmingen. Ryanair, one of the low-cost airlines in Europe lands in Memmingen airport. Visit to Weissenburg, Bavaria

How are you doing folks? I hope that everything went out fine to everyone especially during the cold winter days in Europe. The past days were really very cold and until now it is still freezing cold outside. This is the time of the year where I just want to stay at home and do some things in the house which are left for some times. I am really very busy since the first day of February. I don't have much time to go online since there are a lot of things to take care offline.

Anyway, I am sharing an image taken during our visit in Weißenburg or Weissenburg. This was my first trip in 2012. It is a historical town in Bavaria, Germany. There are many ruins left by the Romans there. One of the good example is the remains of the Roman bath in this town.

It's Snowing in Neumarkt!

Thank goodness that we really don't have snow in our area. But be very careful because the streets are also dangerous especially when it get frozen and icy during the night. This is what they call black ice. I heard over the radio this morning that there were a lot of accidents in Bavaria due to icy road and highways. My friends are also telling the same.

I did not really see a lot of snow in our area but in the nearby towns, I witnessed it last December 2011. As we drove to Neumarkt, a municipality in Upper Palatinate, Bavaria it was snowing a bit. You can see it in my snapshot below. Not too much snow but when the weather is rainy and snowy, better be careful when driving particularly early in the morning. Most streets become icy and slippery. Drive safely folks especially to all my friends in Bavaria.

A Visit to Landshut, Germany

I am trying to remember the exact date when we visited Landshut. While browsing my images and looking for the date when it was taken, I found out that we visited this city last July 4, 2009. It was a wonderful trip we had because we were able to witness its famous festival called the Landshuter Hochzeit or Landshut Wedding. This festival only takes place every four years. It means that the next festival will take place on July 2013.

Landshut, a city in the state of Bavaria is located in the south-east of Germany, belonging to both Eastern and Southern Bavaria. It is situated on the banks of Isar River. This city is famous for its Gothic architecture located in its historic city center. Most of it were not destroyed during the World War II attacks.

I want to visit again the next Landshuter Hochzeit festival in 2013.

A Beautiful Sunday Walk in Bavaria

No hectic today besides it is Sunday. I already woke-up late this morning. I went to bed very late last night after watching a movie on Television. After taking our brunch, I told hubby that we must need to go for a walk in the afternoon. At around 1:00pm, we started walking around.

The weather is very cold. What can you expect during Autumn in Bavaria, Germany. It was good today because it was sunny...a perfect weather for wandering. I made it sure that I had the right clothes on. I did not really felt so cold because I wore warm clothes. The scenery around our area is very nice. The hills and valleys are perfect for looking and walking around.

After around two hours of walking in the fresh air, we need to hurry home because hubby wanted to watch a football game in our place.

It was a beautiful Sunday autumn walk today. Thanks God for it. I wish everyone a fantastic week ahead!

the hills and mountains around our area. This is where we sometimes go for a walk. I love it!
